I've been working a project for several months now with a man named James Kerkula. He is originally from Liberia, Africa and we connected through my interest in returning there and my desire to use my photography and journalism in a way that would help a lot of people. The initial issue will be sent all over the country to raise funding for both the magazine and to build a K-12 school in Liberia. From there it will hopefully support many other businesses and projects while simultaneously raising awareness of world issues. It seems many Americans know little to nothing of what's going on in Africa and other parts of the world. This magazine will strive to remedy that by sharing history, stories and projects. There will be many people involved in fundraising in Philadelphia and throughout the United States, beginning with groups of runners. Sometime this year there will be a citywide run to raise money for these schools and other new developments in a war-ravaged piece of the world.
I'll be writing more on this later.
Here are the four initial images we liked for the cover and I am 90% I am using the first one shown here. I have the title and text almost completed but I'm not completely satisfied with it yet.
I'll be posting the finished cover when it's done
But for now I present to you : James Kerkula
There were a group of teenagers all standing by to get James' autograph. He kept saying "I'm not famous," and no one seemed to believe him.
